01-Whale watching Spot - Mirissa, Sri Lanka

Watching whales and dolphins in Mirissa is one of the most exciting water activities you can do while on vacation in Sri Lanka. The biggest animals in the world are sometimes spotted blue whales and Mirissa is Sri Lanka's best location for whale and dolphin watching tour.

When is the Best Time

The season of whale watching begins in November to the end of April. The very best months for blue whale sightings are in March and April. In the morning the sea is calm and in the afternoon it is hot. Around 6 and latest 7 in the morning the whale watching tours start very early. Whales can be seen from May to October, but less in number and the sea may be rough. Anyway, booking is possible at low season, give them a call view days in advance. Be aware May, and June is also the worst time of the monsoon. The probability of sightings is 90 percent during the peak season. We went there a couple of times in January and saw one blue whale. We've been told they spot up to eight in one day, sometimes. The good choice is Trincomalee with best sightings in August and September from June through October.

You are required at Coconut Tree Hill to make some friends. But the fuzzy, fluffy and welcoming kind, not just the human kind! Numerous stray dogs are roaming around Coconut Tree Hill only waiting for someone to catch a sunrise with.

The proximity to Parrot Rock also makes this destination perfect, as both locations can be easily explored on the same morning. Parrot Rock can easily be seen from Coconut Tree Hill and vice-versa.

We experienced a beautiful sunrise at Coconut Tree Hill. We woke up about 5:30-5:45am and saw but we were about to see another couple setting up for the sunrise. A cute little buddy decided to come along for the ride, and we were soaking in some rays our new-found friend. Surfers caught some waves nearby in the morning, since Mirissa is also a popular surf hotspot

03- Tangalle Beach

Tangalle Beach is the ideal place to take a quiet and relaxing holiday. The stunning beach with white sand will give you the true vibes of a tropical paradise. For kilometers the white sands proceed along a stretch of bays and beaches on both the north and the south sides.

Originally, Tallanga was a fishing village that suffered greatly during the 2004 tsunami, and has since been rebuilding. Though there are very beautiful beaches and bays here, but it doesn't draw too many visitors, making it a great quiet getaway.

The beach features some of the sunset's breathtaking views. Although the water is deep blue and beautiful, it is not ideal to swim at Tangalle Beach as the tides can be very rough and it can be quite risky. The small bay with a sheltered reef, is one of the locations you definitely should visit. The reef captures the larger waves, and behaves like a natural whirlpool. The soft sands of the beach also make it an ideal spot for a nice morning run.

Restaurants and cafés are lying in large numbers along the Tangalle beach and you can enjoy a bite or a drink while at the beach. Tangalle beach is brimming with tourism potential and may well be a part of future Sri Lankan tourism.

The best time to visit Tangalle Beach
The best time to visit Tangalle Beach is from November to April, during the winter months. During this time the beach is in the height of its glory. During the summer months of May to October you can also visit this beach, which is when the beach is very quiet as not many people visit this place during off season, although at this time the sea could be in harsh conditions.
