When is the Best Time
The season of whale watching begins in November to the end of April. The very best months for blue whale sightings are in March and April. In the morning the sea is calm and in the afternoon it is hot. Around 6 and latest 7 in the morning the whale watching tours start very early. Whales can be seen from May to October, but less in number and the sea may be rough. Anyway, booking is possible at low season, give them a call view days in advance. Be aware May, and June is also the worst time of the monsoon. The probability of sightings is 90 percent during the peak season. We went there a couple of times in January and saw one blue whale. We've been told they spot up to eight in one day, sometimes. The good choice is Trincomalee with best sightings in August and September from June through October.

We experienced a beautiful sunrise at Coconut Tree Hill. We woke up about 5:30-5:45am and saw but we were about to see another couple setting up for the sunrise. A cute little buddy decided to come along for the ride, and we were soaking in some rays our new-found friend. Surfers caught some waves nearby in the morning, since Mirissa is also a popular surf hotspot
